This is a good read, and interesting topic. I'm curious, do you think that a military shooter game like Call of Duty should stop and think about narrative dissonance, or can this get in the way of the fun? For example, Spec Ops: The Line is famous example of a military shooter grappling with the consequences of war to create an impactful story, and cohesion between gameplay and that story, but it's not a game that you'd play for hours on end, or to relax after a day's work.
